Alfred P. Standley, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday morning, January 8, 2015 at Saint Luke's Hospital.
A Celebration of Alfred's Life will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday, January 17th, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., with Pastor David King officiating. Friends may call after 1:30 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Alfred is survived by his wife, Roberta; four children, Joe Standley, Lake of the Hills, Illinois, Sharon Sorensen, Batavia, Illinois, Greg (Kerree) Standley and Cory (Troy Henry) Standley, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Detreich, Devin, Ryan, Melissa and Kyle; sisters, Louise (Bob) Elsemiller and Dorothy Gabriel, both of Branson, Missouri and Evelyn Miller, Grayslake, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Catherine Ann (Lemke) Standley and a sister, Helen Poyer.
Alfred was born October 25, 1940 in Des Plaines, Illinois and moved to Cedar Rapids from Des Plaines in August, 1972. He married Roberta J. Woosley on May 1, 1971 in Des Plaines. In Cedar Rapids, Alfred was a local mobile tool dealer for 37 years until his retirement.
Alfred was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting. He loved to play pinochle and in his younger days he played guitar in his band "The Neutrons". Alfred was an excellent cook and with his wife competed in and won many chili cook-offs. He also enjoyed baking pastries and desserts.
Contributions in his memory may be given to the First Church of the Nazarene.
