Aloysius "Al" Boeding, 88, of rural Ely, died early Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Aaron Junge. Burial with military graveside services will follow at Czech National Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 30, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2 nd Street S.E., and after 9:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church.
Al was born on April 24, 1934 in Waucoma, Iowa to Henry J. and Alvira E. (Naber) Boeding. Al was one of twelve siblings, raised in Lamont, Iowa. He married Patsy Rompot on June 11, 1955, at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church, where he was a long-time member and served as an usher.
Al was employed at Wilson's Meat Packing Plant and various automotive service stations before owning his own business. He owned and operated Riverside APCO Service for over 30 years. There was nothing Al liked better than an interesting conversation with a good (or new) friend. Al could have an engaging conversation with anyone.
Al was an Army veteran and spent most of his military service stationed in Germany. He was a member of the Ely American Legion Post 555. He enjoyed farming, gardening, mowing, cutting/splitting firewood, spending time with family, and just being outdoors "tinkering" in his garage.
Al is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Patsy; son, Christopher (Denise) Boeding; daughter, Cathy Bruni; granddaughters, Cristal (Tom) Holubar, Jessica Boeding and Daniella Bruni; grandsons, Jon (Courtney) Boeding, Joshua Boeding and Joe Bruni; sisters, Laura (Allen) Behning and Janet (Tom) Wilhelm; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Al was preceded in death by his parents as well as these siblings and their spouses: Herman (Coletta), Leo (Edith), Linus (Joyce), Rita (John) Thys, Virginia (Harvey) Wise, Sister Mary Elaine, Francis (Lois), RoseAnn (Gary) Davis and Dorothy (Wayne) Lovetinsky.
Military graveside services will be provided by Ely American Legion Post 555.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
