Obituary

Andrean Lavonne Warner, 77, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, August 8, 2025, with loved ones by her side. Born March 4, 1948, in Fullerton, California, Andrean was known for remarkable intelligence and a servant's heart. A lifelong singer and learner, she spoke fluent French, taught herself German, and kept a book—or coloring pencils—close, even in her final days.

Strong and deeply independent, Andrean wore every hat in life—and wore them well. She chose to raise her daughter on her own—never marrying—because she refused to settle for anything less than a father who would truly measure up for LaVonne. She would surprise you with her funny sayings, and in everything she did she looked for ways to help, always with family in mind. A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she sought to live those teachings through quiet service and song.

Her life held many proud chapters….As a young woman, she excelled in school—FHA president, school paper editor, yearbook, nearly straight As—and twice earned Montana All-State Choir. She also helped her family run a small motel and two grocery stores across Montana, work that forged a lifelong work ethic. She then served a mission in France, returned stateside and enlisted in the U.S. Army until the birth of her daughter; and a grocery store in Tipton brought the family to Iowa.. Determined to finish what she started, she earned a History degree (minor in Religion) from Cornell College in Mount Vernon while working full-time as a machinist at Goss. In later seasons she worked as a massage therapist and substitute teacher, and in Missouri she owned and ran a motel. Last year she reunited with family in Iowa, finding contentment despite great pain. We're grateful knowing she's now at peace and reunited with loved ones.

Andrean is survived by her daughter, LaVonne (Brian) Smith; grandchildren, Soleil (Jaime) Yowler, Mariah Warner (Troy), and Garrett Smith; and four great-grandchildren; and sister, Pam (Miles) Connor. She was preceded in death by her adored parents, Albert and Betty Warner; beloved sister, Karen Potter; and precious granddaughter, Abigail Smith.

With heartfelt thanks to Suncrest Hospice for their compassionate care, to our dear friend Melissa for showing up when we needed it most, and to every person who prayed, visited, called, cooked, or stood with us—your love sustained us.

Honoring her wishes, the family will celebrate her life privately.

In lieu of flowers, please do a small act of service or kindness in Andrean's name. Plant or create something beautiful, support a local choir, or donate a favorite book to a library—Andrean would love that!
