Obituary

Anna Mae Vlasek, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday morning, August 23, 2012 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a brief illness.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Monday at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial: Saint John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 P.M. Sunday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J Street S.W. where a rosary begins at 7:00 P.M.

Anna Mae is survived by her children, Nancy (Marvin) Krotz of Cedar Rapids and Jim (Karen) Vlasek of Ely; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dan) Kucera, Jeff (Amy) Krotz, Jodie (Craig) Charipar, Julie (Marc) Ozmun, Angie (Joe) DuBois and Greg (Vickie) Vlasek; 12 great-grandchildren and a brother, Joseph Bevill of Cedar Rapids.

Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, her parents, James and Leona (Brown) Bevill and two brothers, Dale and Vade Bevill.

Anna Mae was born October 17, 1920 in Norway, Iowa and was a longtime Cedar Rapids resident. She married Ernest L. Vlasek on February 18, 1939 at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Ernest died October 17, 1997. Anna Mae had worked as a nanny for the Harry Terpstra family.

She had been a member of Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church since her marriage and was very active in church activities, especially the Goulash Day celebrations. Anna Mae was a wonderful cook and baker and was especially known for the delicious houskas she made. She enjoyed playing bingo at the P-3 Retirees Hall and going on trips to the casinos.

Anna Mae's family would like to thank the staff at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the loving and understanding care they gave, not only to Anna Mae, but also to her family.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy and Camp Courageous.
