Obituary

Billy Mac Rugg, 87, of Marion, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Saint Luke's Hospital surrounded by his family.

Bill was born April 24, 1928 in Barnes City, Iowa to Harry and Opal (McSpadden) Rugg. He married Marilyn Steege on June 22, 1950 in Cedar Falls. They moved to Marion in 1965, where he owned and operated The Hobby Shop in uptown Marion. He later worked at Kubias Hardware until it closed in 1986 and later retired from Great Plains in Marion in 1992.

Bill spent a lot of his time woodworking, primarily making and selling whirlygigs at local craft shows. He enjoyed World War I airplanes, Glenn Miller music, teasing anyone he could and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn; son, Mike Rugg & Wife Jamie; Granddaughter, Jeni Crawford & Husband Cody; Great-grandchildren, Darian, Emma and Colson Mac; Grandson Blake Anderson & Wife Christine; Great-Grandchildren, Aiden, Adrianna, Ava, Axton and Granddaughter, Jessica Armstrong & Husband Nick; Great-Grandchildren, Alex, Jordan, Mason & many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry & Opal Rugg, his sisters, Helen Carnal and Arlette Carnal and a niece, Mary Willa Byers.

Services will be held at 6:00 P.M. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., Cedar Rapids by Rev. Roger McKinstry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of his wife, Marilyn.
