February 24, 1956 – July 20, 2024
Carmen M. Miller, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday at Saint Ludmila Catholic Church by Fr. Kenneth Glaser. Burial will follow at Saint John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 "J" Street S.W., and after 9:30 A.M. Friday at the church. A rosary begins at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Carmen is survived by her husband, Stephen; her sons, Joshua Miller, LCDR Jarad (Nicole) Gilbertson, and Justin Gilbertson; six grandchildren, Evalyn, Reina,Vinnie, Luelle, Brantley and Everett who were all adored by their grand- mother; and her siblings, Geri (Gary) Wells, Jonesboro, Arkansas, Nita Matthews, Grand Forks, North Dakota, Bruce (Carol) Cariveau, Fargo, North Dakota, Stewart Cariveau and Leon Cariveau of Minnesota. She is also survived by her special four-legged friend, Makee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Ann Hentschell and 4 brothers, Kermit, Leo, Brian and Mark Cariveau.
Carmen was born February 24, 1956 in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Jerome C. and Gladys I. (Dronen) Cariveau. She married Stephen P. Miller on December 31, 1989 in Cedar Rapids. Carmen had worked as a Financial Administrative Assistant.
She enjoyed going to the casinos and playing bingo. Carmen loved to listen to live music such as the Rolling Stones, the Blues and anything with a saxophone being played. She especially loved camping outdoors and reading. What brought her the most enjoyment however, was making her children and grandchildren happy.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Mercy.
