Carol George Hayek, 91, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at The Gardens of Cedar Rapids.

Carol was born on October 31, 1934, in Spillville, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Evelyn (Huber) Hayek. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Cedar Rapids, in 1952. Carol proudly served as a member of the Iowa National Guard and as a Reserve of the Army of the United States until 1962. Carol married the love of his life, Janet Organ, on June 10, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell, Iowa. Together they built a life centered around family, faith, and hard work.

Carol worked alongside Janet in their family business, Carpet Chalet, for 40 years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished the time spent with his loved ones. A hardworking and dependable man, Carol took great pride in providing for his family and was known for his strong work ethic. He was always willing to lend a hand, never afraid of hard work, and someone others could count on when they needed him.

Carol enjoyed volunteering at the hospital and found great joy in the simple pleasures of country life—gardening, spending time in nature, and visiting with his neighbors. He and Janet also loved traveling together, creating special memories on trips to Yellowstone and during their honeymoon along Route 66. His strength, kindness, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children, Hal (Marianne) Ley Hayek, Amy (Bill) Ormston, Matt (Heather) Hayek, and Curt (Melissa) Hayek; his cherished grandchildren, Victor, Charlie, Rose (Ciara), Liam, Hailey, George, Jennifer, Robert, Parker, Nash, Christian, and Sarah (Sagar); step-grandchildren, Jacob and Peyton; great-grandchildren, Opal; and brother, Father Herb Hayek, OP.

Carol was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Timothy, and his brother, James.

His family finds comfort in knowing that he is reunited with Janet and those who have gone before him. Carol's legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.

Memorial contributions may be made in Carol's honor to St. Ludmila Catholic Church.

May he rest in eternal peace.
