Obituary

Charles E. Mader, 94, of Center Point, died Monday, February 17, 2014.

Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the First Christian Church, Center Point, by Rev. Melanie Van Weelden. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call after 9:00 A.M. Saturday at the church. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, Cedar Rapids, serving the family.

Charles is survived by 3 daughters, Garnet Mader, Center Point, Carol Opheim, Federal Way, Washington and Sharon (Dale) Barnes, Anamosa; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, parents, Paul and Inez (Cumberland) Mader and sisters, Christine Folkins and Mary Kessler.

Charles was born August 2, 1919 at the family farm on Cumberland Hill, Benton County, Iowa and was a lifelong area resident. He married Gladys M. Noska on December 24, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. Charles cared for his wife the last 12 years of her life until her death June 10, 2002. He worked as a mechanic at Iowa Manufacturing for 38 years until his retirement in 1987. Charles was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and American Legion Dye Benion Post 297, both in Center Point and an I.B.E.W. Union member in Cedar Rapids. In September, 2010, Charles had the opportunity to go on the Honor Flight to Washington, DC with other World War II veterans. He loved to work on cars and could repair anything.

Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Dye Benion Post 297.

A memorial fund has been established in Charles' name.
