Obituary

Clarence F. Kadlec, 101, of Robins, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully early Monday, July 5, 2021 while living with a family member.  Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 P.M. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2 nd Street S.E., Cedar Rapids.  Anyone attending the visitation is respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing.  Private Family Services will be held on Friday with Pastor J. Reginald Daniel officiating followed by burial at the Czech National Cemetery.

Clarence is survived by sons, Les (Deanne) Kadlec, Omaha, and Craig (Laurie) Kadlec, Robins; grandchildren, Kelly (Valerie) Kadlec, Omaha; Curtis (Cheri) Kadlec, Jolene Kadlec and Amy Kadlec, all of Cedar Rapids; six great-grandchildren, Jamison (Rylea), Hunter, Kennedy, Kailyn, Evan and Caleb; and a great-great granddaughter, Jasey.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen; his parents, Louis and Susan Kadlec; brothers, Victor and Richard Kadlec; and son, Wes Kadlec.

Clarence was born May 29, 1920 at Cedar Rapids and remained a lifelong resident.  Clarence married Helen Marie Hodge on December 12, 1942.  (They first met on the tennis court when she showed up to play instead of her brother, Jack.)

Clarence served in the Army (89 th Armored Division) during World War II.  Following the war, he worked as a cabinet maker and then became a carpenter, a profession he continued until his retirement.  He was a lifetime member of the Carpenters Union Local 308.  Clarence was also a member of the Bible Baptist Church since 1991.

Clarence liked his work as a carpenter.  He enjoyed tennis, golf, bowling and family gatherings.  Late in life he still kept busy walking for exercise nearly every day.

Clarence was a wonderful person, a special father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He will be dearly missed.

Military graveside services will be conducted by the Cedar Valley Detachment of the MCL and the Iowa Army National Guard.

A memorial fund has been established.
