Obituary

David William Conway, 57, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, February 10, 2018 after a brief illness at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics surrounded by family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 A.M. Friday, February 16th at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids by Father Christopher Podhajsky. The Rite of Committal will be celebrated at Saint John's Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass.

Mr. Conway was born December 17, 1960 in Cedar Rapids to Donald and Vera (Valenta) Conway.

He graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids in 1979. He graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids in 1984 with a B.S. degree in Computer Science.

He was a Design Electrical Engineer with NORAND Data Systems (INTERMEC) in Cedar Rapids from 1984 to 1988. He served as a Principle Electrical Engineer at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids from 1988 to 2013. In 2013 he founded Conway International Limited, providing power electronics consulting expertise to companies and individuals worldwide.

Dave was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Tillie Conway, and William and Anna Valenta, aunt Vlasta Valenta, uncle James Conway, all of Cedar Rapids, and uncle Milton Valenta of Catonsville, Maryland and cousin Glenn Valenta of Fallston, Maryland.

He is survived by his mother and father of Cedar Rapids; his brother Daniel and wife Paula (Smith) Conway of Middletown, Rhode Island; his sisters, Judith and husband Alexander Lindsay of Central City, Cathleen and husband Ronald Harrelson of Ely, and Rebecca Stebral of Cedar Rapids; aunt Shirley Valenta of Catonsville, Maryland; cousin Paul Valenta of Manchester, Maryland, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

He was a lifetime communicant of Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church and was a person of great faith. He was an Eagle Scout. As a scientist and inventor, he was awarded Engineer of the Year on three occasions by Rockwell Collins, and he was awarded many U.S. Patents for his electrical designs. He earned his Black Belt and other awards while a Master and Instructor at Mr. Jung's Tae Kwon Do Academy in Cedar Rapids.

Those who knew Dave will miss his intensity, his sense of humor, and his kind heart. He loved to roam Palisades-Kepler State Park and Old River Road, and he was inspired by all things natural, wild, and free. Dave was devoted to his family. He loved to attend holiday gatherings and other special events, where he especially adored the children and the pets.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
