David L. Dostal Sr., 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, October 31, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center.
Funeral Mass: 9:30 A.M. Friday at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial with military honors: Saint John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 P.M. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., where a rosary begins at 6:00 P.M.
David is survived by his wife, Marlene; children, Lisa (Brian) Pruess, Cedar Rapids, David Jr. (Janet) Dostal, Belleair, Florida and John (Angie) Dostal, Millersburg, Iowa; stepson, Tim Collum, Mitchellville; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two cousins, Richard Sajba, Minnesota and Joanne Taylor, Florida. He is also survived by his special canine friend, Bandit.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Adelle (Sajba) Dostal; son-in-law, Tyrone Bennett Jr.; stepdaughter, Tina Collum; grandmother, Mary Sajba in 1957; aunt and uncle, Leona and Mike Rubek and sister-in-law, Elaine Holder.
David was born September 9, 1942 in Cedar Rapids and was a lifelong resident. He married Marlene J. (Krotz) Collum on October 29, 2011 at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church. David was employed at Quaker Oats Co. for 33 years until his retirement in 2000. He later worked for the Sports Licensed Division of the Adidas Group. David was a Vietnam Army veteran.
He was a member of the Swisher American Legion Post 671 and RWDSU Union Local 110. He enjoyed traveling, watching football on television, especially the New England Patriots and seeing the squirrels play in his yard.
Military graveside services will be conducted by Swisher American Legion Post 671,
Memorial contributions may be given to the University of Iowa Cancer Center.
