David Kaplan, 65, passed away peacefully after a long term illness on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics while receiving superior care.

David was born June 30, 1956, the son of William and Lillian Kaplan.  He was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and Kirkwood Community College.  Dave spoke fondly of his time in school and pranks played while on the football team.

David was well known for being an incredible Dad to five daughters and a husband to Tammy Kaplan.  His love for the outdoors was another way he bonded with his daughters, often taking their friends along on fishing trips to his favorite trout streams.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Tammy; his children, Kim Kaplan, Karie (Jeff) Erickson, Kristi Kaplan, Karla (Mike) Ohman, Holly Heiar and Carl Johnson; brother, Donald (Cathy) Kaplan; sister-in-law, Teresa Kaplan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lillian Kaplan; brother, Clifford Kaplan and nephews, Todd Kaplan and Daniel Kaplan.
