Obituary

David Lee Phillips, 73, a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away at the Home early Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Funeral Services with military honors will be held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., Cedar Rapids with Father Aaron Junge officiating.  Burial will follow at Saint John's Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

David is survived by his brother, Terry Irvin Phillips and sister-in-law, Jennifer (Ellis) Phillips, both of Prosper, Texas; two nieces, Holly Phillips Rudnick of McKinney, Texas and Amy Phillips Palomarez of Edmond, Oklahoma and their families; two aunts, Maxine Snodgrass of Dighton, Kansas and Rose Goin of Crockett, Texas, and their families.  A special longtime friend, Diane Drahos of Cedar Rapids also survives, as do numerous cousins and other friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Timothy Wayne Phillips.

David was born November 18, 1949 in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Norval Irvin and Virginia Lee (Tucker) Phillips.  He graduated from Parsons Senior High School in Parsons, Kansas, and later graduated from the Labette Community College also in Parsons.  David was an Air Force veteran having served from 1971-1976.

While living in Cedar Rapids, David was employed as a security guard with the Two Star Detective Agency.  He had also worked for Bishop's Cafeteria and as a custodian for Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church of which he was a member.

Military Honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 788.
