Dennis H. Lewis, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from a long battle with cancer.

Dennis was born June 11, 1947 in Cedar Rapids.  He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School, class of 1965.  Dennis served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  He was united in marriage to Linda Shimek on December 18, 1966 in Cedar Rapids.  Dennis was the self-employed owner of a business that he and his wife ran for over 20 years, until his retirement in 2019.

Dennis is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Prince Jay) Brandt of Marion, and Kerri Shimp of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Grant Akery of Marion, and Elizabeth, Natalie, Ellie and Kane of Cedar Falls; and his four-legged companion, Teegan.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Linda.

A huge thank you to all the compassionate people that helped during this journey, Dr. Evgeny Arshava, Dr. John Lanaghan, and all the nurses and nursing aides at the VA Hospital along with the crew from Right at Home.  The Mercy Inpatient Rehabilitation team and finally to the wonderful, respectful, caring staff at the Hospice House of Mercy.

There will be no memorial or visitation service.
