Dolores A. (Horsch) Chalupsky, 91, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of 178 Mayden Avenue S.W., died of pneumonia early Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center.
Funeral Mass: 9:30 A.M. Friday at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., where a rosary begins at 4:00 P.M. and a vigil service at 7:30 P.M.
Dolores is survived by her son, James E. and wife Joan A. Chalupsky, Shueyville; grandchildren, Julie L. Swenka, Shueyville, Lori A. "Lauren" and husband Mark Cannon, Shueyville and Timothy J. Chalupsky, Cedar Rapids; great-grandson, Caelen and great-granddaughter, Rain. She is also survived by her sister, Bernadette "Bernie" H. Farrell, Hiawatha and her brother-in-law, Frank J. Hanisits, Chicago.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, her parents, a brother, Joseph Horsch, two sisters, Marilyn "Lyn" J. Hanisits of Chicago and Rosemarie "Babe" T. Rojek and husband Joseph R., of Bolingbrook, Illinois, and a brother-in-law, James R. Farrell of Hiawatha.
Dolores was born January 9, 1923 in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph C. and Anna G. (Krebs) Horsch. She married Edward G. Chalupsky on May 28, 1949 at Saint Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Chicago. Edward died on January 7, 1983. Following their marriage, Dolores and Edward lived in Ely for 5 years before moving to Cedar Rapids. Dolores had been employed in Chicago, at College Community Schools, and Link-Belt Speeder (FMC) in Cedar Rapids.
She had been a member of Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church since 1951 and sang with both the Sunday and Funeral Choirs. Dolores was a member of the church's Saint Bridget's circle. She had volunteered at Mercy Medical Center since 1985. She also belonged to Chada/Pautz Fellowship of Asbury United Methodist Church and T.O.P.S., Inc.
Dolores was very gifted: she made most of her grandchildren's clothing, knitted sweaters, and crocheted afghans. She also enjoyed crafting leather items such as billfolds. Dolores loved to cook and bake for friends and family. She enjoyed listening to music and delighted in all types of flowers, especially carnations and "grandpa's" peonies.
Memorial contributions may be given to Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Mercy Medical Center.
