Douglas W. Arens-Henderson, 76, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on March 12, 2026, at UnityPoint Health St Luke's Hospital. A Celebration of Life for Doug will be held on May 23rd at Hannah Park in Marion, Iowa. Guests are welcome to gather from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. for a catered lunch and time to connect. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., we will share tributes to Doug. The program will begin with opening remarks, followed by an open invitation for anyone who wishes to share memories, stories, or reflections in honor of Doug.

The Arens in Doug's name is his mother's maiden name and Doug wanted to acknowledge her for being such an incredible mentor and mother and her lifelong commitment to learning, teaching, and excellence.
Doug wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to his wonderful wife, Sandra Jean for her great love and support during his lifetime and for being his "kindness coach".
Doug is survived by his wife, Sandra; children, Heather Bright and spouse David Bright of Iowa City and Geoff Henderson of Dubuque; grandchildren, Piper Bright of Iowa City, Truman Bright of Iowa City, and Sullivan Bright of Iowa City; stepsons, Brent Belding and spouse Suzanne Belding of Mount Vernon, Brad Belding of Cascade, and Derek Belding and spouse Mackenzie Belding; and great grandchildren, Brooke Belding of Cedar Rapids, Erika Belding of Cedar Rapids, Erin Belding of Coralville, and Jessica Beling of Mount Vernon.
Doug wanted to thank his lifelong friends, Steve and Karen Andersen, and their son, Scott, for their incredible support for all these decades. They are, and always have been, a blessing to both Doug and his wife, Sandra Jean. A special thank you to old friends, Tom and Sue Bullis, for their kindness and friendship. Lastly, a special thank you to my old friend, Wayne Anderson for his patience in the creation of the videos and the file for viewing.
Lastly, a heartfelt sense of compassion and love to all the people who are struggling and suffering in our world. They are all in my heart and have my deeply felt blessings.
