Elizabeth "Betty" Brummer

Elizabeth “Betty” A. Brummer, 85, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, 1228 2nd Street SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401, is assisting the family with arrangements. Private Memorial Mass will be held Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.

Betty was born on August 5, 1940, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Hugh and Louise (Troendle) Sweeney Sr. She was united in marriage to Florus Brummer on October 12, 1957, at St. Mary’s Lycurgus Catholic Church in rural Waukon.

Betty was a devoted Catholic and loved her dog, Heidi and cat, L.A. Her favorite things were fishing, playing cards with her family, spending time with her grandchildren, and Little House on the Prairie Books.

Betty is survived by her children, Mike (Lori) Brummer, Teresa Bulicek, Kelly Brummer, and Nick (Rena) Brummer; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary and Tom; and beloved pets, Heidi and L.A.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; children, David Brummer and Jackie Brummer; and siblings, James, Joseph, George, Hugh, and Eugene.
