Frances Hembera, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died at her home Friday morning, January 9, 2015. Respecting her wishes, there will be a family memorial service at a later date. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is serving the family.
Frances was born July 14, 1924 to Grace and Henry Dresselhuis in Parkersburg, Iowa. She graduated from Parkersburg High School and was employed at the Y.W.C.A. in Waterloo and the Cedar Rapids school district.
She married E.J. Hembera on June 23, 1943 and he preceded her in death in 1990.
Frances was an ordained elder at Christ Presbyterian Church and was active in choir, teaching and other church organizations. She was a longtime volunteer at Olivet Mission.
Frances is survived by her daughters, Mary Miskimen and Donna (John) Koehler, both of Cedar Rapids and Linda (Larry) Severidt of Des Moines; grandchildren, Andrea Cooksey, Amy (Adam) Vincent, Matt (Desiree) Severidt and Mary Severidt; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Edene Hofman of Grand Rapids, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters, one brother and her great-grandson, Nathan Severidt.
