Frank George Hartmann Jr., 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday morning, December 2, 2014 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a brief illness.
Funeral Mass: 3:00 P.M. Monday, December 8th, at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church by Father Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: Saint John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 P.M. Sunday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., where a rosary begins at 5:30 P.M.
Frank is survived by his children, Kevin (Holly) Hartmann, Cedar Rapids, Caroline (John) Mockler, Dubuque, Denise (Don) Hurt, Cedar Rapids and Ken (Sheila) Hartmann, Clinton, Connecticut; grandchildren, Brennen Gibson, Rachel (Brent) Hanken, Michael (Cassie) Mockler, Katherine Mockler, Brian Mockler, Emma Mockler, Sarah Mockler, Nicole Hartmann and Olivia Hartmann; one great-grandson, Joshua Hanken; sisters, Rose Cooper, Brownwood, Texas, Faye Estes, Bellville, Texas, Joyce Hamby, Lakeview, Arkansas, Janice Baker, Haiti, Jean Briles, Marion, Nita Price, Marengo, Amy Wilke, Paducah, Kentucky and Ann Gorsch, Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Agnes, son, Mark E. Hartmann, grandson, Jack Sullivan Hartmann, his parents, Frank Sr. and Alma (Grant) Hartmann and one sister, Ellen Blucher.
Frank was born January 3, 1934 at the family farm in rural Marengo and was a resident of Cedar Rapids for the majority of his life. He married Agnes Rose Zach on September 21, 1957 at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Agnes died November 26, 2014.
Frank was employed at the Cedar Rapids Post Office for many years until his retirement. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He and Agnes were members of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church.
At Frank's request, a single rose representing "LIFE" will be given to him at this time by his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Coalition for Life of Iowa, P.O. Box 864, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52406 and the American Life League.
Military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Moomey-Vogel Post 727.
