Garland passed away peacefully at home on December 27, 2016.
He is survived by his wife, LaLonnie, of 50 years; his children, Tina (Darryl), Garland Jr. (Marcia), Bobbi Jo (Michael) and his dog, Stinger; brother, Raymond and sisters, Nancy (Don) and Betty (Weston); grandchildren, James (Darla) and Jason (Molly) McGaffic, April (Bobby) Harris, Samantha (Damon) and Nathan Mann, Jacob (Lacey) Alff, Jessica (Luke) Owens and Jenna Alff (Jason); seven great-grandchildren.
Garland was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Bird and stepfather, Lawrence; his father, Edward Alff and his dog, Precious.
Garland was born on a farm in Tazewell County, Virginia and was raised in Carson, Iowa. He later married Lonnie and moved to Cedar Rapids. Garland worked at Weyerhauser for 38 years before retiring in 2005.
Garland enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling but nothing ever made him happier than the time he spent with his family and dogs.
He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
