Helen A. Vopalka, 86, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 193 Jacolyn Drive N.W., died Monday afternoon, May 26, 2014 at the care center.
Services: 1:30 P.M. Friday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., by Rev. Ike Akabogu, Spirit of Faith Family Church. Burial: Saint John's Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:30 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Helen is survived by her sister, Agnes Okken, Cedar Rapids; 2 nieces, 4 nephews, 2 great-nieces, 3 great-nephews and 1 great-great niece also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Emma (Pospisil) Vopalka, brothers, Adolph and Godfrey and a great-nephew, Bruce Enos Jr.
Helen was born August 16, 1927 in Cedar Rapids and was a lifelong resident. She was a Catholic and was raised in Saint Wenceslaus Church. Helen worked in the laundry department of the Montrose Hotel for many years until her retirement. She loved to read and work crossword puzzles.
A memorial fund has been established.
