Obituary

Jeanne Marie Zobl, 92, died on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Living Center West from complications of heart disease. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd St. SE, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Born March 14, 1925, in Alvord, Iowa, Jeanne was the daughter of William and Rose McMullen O'Connor. She attended Alvord High School and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Portland, Oregon. Jeanne moved with her family to Cedar Rapids in 1943 and married Charles Zobl on November 13, 1948, at St. Wenceslaus Church. She and Charles were married for 53 years.

Jeanne was a member of All Saints Catholic Church for over 40 years, and later a member of St. Wenceslaus Church. She was actively involved at both parishes. Most recently, she held positions as secretary and vice president of St. Monica's Circle, and enjoyed baking kolaches with the ladies from the circle. She was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Jeanne retired from Family Practice Associates after 20 years, and then worked part-time at Antique Wicker for several years.

Survivors include her children: Peg (Rick) Wagner, Tom Zobl, Nancy (Mike) Smith, all of Cedar Rapids, John (Sheree) Zobl of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Dave Zobl of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, Kevin (Anna), Nathan, Molly (Solomon), Ann Marie (Steven), and Brittany; six great-grandchildren, Hunter, Hannah, Hayden, Alex, Solomon, and Nora; brother-in-law, Charles Elias of Bloomington, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Patricia O'Connor and Mary Rose Elias; and brother Maurice O'Connor.

Jeanne was devoted to her faith, to her family, and to creating a warm and welcoming home. She was an excellent cook and, if you knew Jeanne, you were sure to be treated to homemade cookies, pastries, or candies. She also enjoyed cross-stitching, quilting, and gardening.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Campbell and his staff, Living Center West, and Hospice of Mercy for the exceptional care Jeanne received.

Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy or St. Wenceslaus Church.

"May the road rise to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back....

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the hollow of His hand."
