Jerome “Jake” C. Greiner passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Jerome was born on August 13, 1941, in Keota, Iowa. He met the love of his life in June of 1961, and they were married in December of the same year at St. Wenceslaus Church.
He is reunited in heaven with his son, Joseph Dean Greiner; his parents, Cyril and Loretta Greiner; sister, Donna Jean Greiner; and brother, Gary Greiner. He leaves behind his wife, Marlene of 64 years; his sons, Jerome J. Greiner (Joanie) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Christopher Greiner (Janelle) of St. Peters, Missouri, Mark Greiner (Sherry) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and daughter, Deborah Neverman (Andy) of Martelle, Iowa. He also has eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Kathy Brinning (Roger) of Washington, Iowa; brother, Marvin Greiner (Jeannie) of Keota, Iowa; nieces; nephews; and Ginger “flying red dog” that will miss him dearly.
Jerome was honest, loving, hardworking, dependable, and a great role model. There were many times that he worked multiple jobs to provide for his family and was always willing to help a friend. Jobs include KCRG/Gazette (camera man and engineer) for 42 years, his own business (J & B Electronics), Hawkeye Downs Speedway (sound man), and Chapman's Fun World (Mr. Fix It). His children were ensured to go on a summer vacation somewhere that would include an educational experience. They will always remember the yellow station wagon pulling a pop-up camper listening to Bobby Vinton on 8 track.
There will be a visitation on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, 1228 2nd Street SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401. A Rosary will begin at 4:00 p.m. Please bring a memory to share with his family and friends. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, with a graveside service at St. John's Cemetery followed by a luncheon back at the church hall. God bless you always.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Mercy, Cedar Rapids.
