John Lloyd Helm, 67, of Fairfax, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness.
Born July 19, 1946, in Vinton, Iowa, he was the son of Vivian E. Avis and Vesper L. Helm.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara A. Conner; four children, John A. Helm (Maryjane), Andrea (Helm) Snitker (Jeff), Justin L. Helm (Katie), Elizabeth M. Helm (Nick Schueler); four grandchildren, Lillie, Kaycen, Justin Jr. and Scarlett; brothers, Chuck Avis (Beverly), Donald Avis (Debbie) and Ken Avis (Debbie); one sister, Dixie Weidenbacher (Dan) and their families; and his four-legged family, Nicky, Scout, Polly, Sweetie, Brutis and all the stray cats he cared for religiously.
John was in auto body repair and worked from his home, Cross Creek Body Shop in Fairfax, for many years. He was an "Artist" in every way.
Loving husband, brother, father and grandfather. John loved all God's Creatures, Great and Small. He will be missed by all and will Forever be in our Hearts.
A "Celebration" of John's life will be at his home, 101 Williams Boulevard, Fairfax, on his birthday, July 19, 2014, from 4 to 8 p.m.
