Obituary

Jolene Kay Rohret, 74, of Cedar Rapids, entered into eternal peace early Friday, August 26, 2016 while surrounded by family.

Funeral Services: 1:30 P.M. Monday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., with Deacon Vernon Rompot, Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church, officiating. Burial: Saint John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Jolene leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her children, Sheryl Murray, Yarmouth, Teresa Murray, Cedar Rapids, Gary Murray, Marion and Jolene "Jim Jim" Murray (Larry Belcher), Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Dean Ortberg (Kelly Ricklefs), Eric Bragg (Jennifer Payne), Michael Murray, Justin Cinkan, Aaliyah Murray, Elainah Murray and Jack Murray; great-grandchildren, Kaiden Murray, Dylan Ortberg, Mason Murray, Chandler Bracelin, Danika Berleen and Ella Marshall; sisters, Mildred Shirbroun, Audubon, Jean Vaerk, Cedar Rapids and Delores Korsmo, Huntsville, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews; and unrelated kin, David Ortberg and Doug Mandell.

Jolene was born July 26, 1942 in Iowa City, the daughter of the late Fred and Nellie (Anderson) Kness. Jolene was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids and a member of Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church. She married Gary Murray on July 17, 1959 in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced in the 1970s. Jolene married Robert Rohret on May 11, 1985 in Cedar Rapids and he died December 24, 1990. Jolene worked at Amana Refrigeration 31 years and retired in 2004.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; siblings, Floyd, Howard, Fred and Don Kness, Yvonne Smith, Wanda McEndree, and her twin sister Colene Noke; grandsons, Eric William Murray and Joseph Dean Stewart.

Jolene's special interests and hobbies included caring for God's creation with her gardening skills and preparing amazing dishes that were enjoyed by many.

Jolene's life was dedicated to raising her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Holidays were important events and Jolene's home was open to all.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Hall Perrine Cancer Center and Hospice of Mercy for their care and support during Jolene's courageous battle and in her final days.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Mercy.
