Karen L. Zacek, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at her home. Per Karen's wishes, there will be no services. Private family burial will take place at a later date at Linwood Cemetery. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, Cedar Rapids is serving the family.

Karen was born November 1, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, daughter to Theodore and Doris "Betty" (Markham) Carter. Karen graduated from Washington High School in 1959 and was united in marriage to James "Jim" Zacek on June 27, 1959. She worked as a receptionist for the Gazette for 15 years.

Karen was a member of the Sweet Adelines in the early 1970's and enjoyed needle point, puzzles, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She also loved to be outside working on the flowers and decorating cakes.

Karen is survived by her loving children, Becky (Gene) Croy, Tammy (Scott) Walton, Kevin (Penny) Zacek and Julie (Marc) Molyneau; sister, Sherrill Turkel; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one more expected later this year; and her dog, Lexi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James "Jim" Zacek; sister, Pat Barker; and brother-in-law, Bob Turkel.
