Lawrence "Larry" C. Michalec, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023 at Mercy Medical Center.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Friday at Saint Ludmila Catholic Church by Father Ken Glaser. Burial will be at a later date at Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:00 A.M. Friday at the church.

Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda; son, Gene (Darla Edgington) Michalec, Cedar Rapids; grandson, Joshua Michalec, Cedar Rapids; brother, Rick (Kathy) Michalec, Hiawatha; brother-in-law, Bob (Diann) Hartman, Naperville, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Lawrence was born August 9, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Rudolph Sr. and Frances (Bammert) Michalec. He married Linda L. Hartman, who he had known since he was 14 years of age, on October 24, 1964 in Cedar Rapids.

Larry was employed with the Cedar Rapids Police Department from 1966 to 1975, leaving the Department as a detective. He was an investigator in the Linn County Attorney's Office for 32 years retiring in August, 2007.

Larry was an Army veteran serving as a radio operator and unit police officer in Germany and France from 1958-1962. He was also a member of the American Legion Moomey-Vogel Post 727 and its Honor Guard.

He was a lifelong Catholic and a member of Saint Ludmila Catholic Church.

Larry was quite athletic and enjoyed participating in softball, basketball and bowling in his younger days. His family and his faith, however, were the most important matters in his life.
