Obituary

Marie G. Jadrnicek, 94, of Garnett Place, died Sunday afternoon, April 7, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday at Valley View Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Pitts officiating. Burial: Czech National Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 P.M. Sunday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 "J" Street S.W.

Marie is survived by her sister, Alice Dennis of Mount Pleasant; 4 nieces and nephews, Mary Edith Heidbreder, Danville, Barnard (Jean) Dennis, Rochester, New Hampshire, Marcia (Gary) Lantz, Glenwood Springs, Colorado and Donald (Cathy) Dennis, Victoria, Texas; grandnieces, Alice J., Julie, Margaret and Denise; grandnephews, Travis and Andrew; and 6 great-grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands and her parents.

Marie was born March 2, 1919 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Glen Edward Gonder and Edith (Doran) Gonder Kelley. She graduated from University High School, Iowa City in 1937. Marie married Fred Schippers on May 14, 1942 in Coralville and he died in July, 1943. On January 10, 1948, Marie married Charles H. Jadrnicek in Cedar Rapids. Charles died on August 5, 1992.

Marie had worked during World War II for the J.I. Case Company in Burlington. While living in Cedar Rapids, she was employed by Century Engineering and later as a fashion consultant at Newman's Department Store and the Montgomery Ward Company.

She was a member of the FMC-LBS Retirees, UAW Retirees, LBS Local 299 Retirees, Damska Matice Skolska (past president), Valley View Baptist Church and its "Grands" Group, Czech Heritage Foundation and the National Czech and Slovak Museum and Library.

Marie was a friend to many over the years and enjoyed being an honorary member of the Dale and Marlys Krohse Family which includes their children Joshua (Angela), David and Lisa (James) and their seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be given to Valley View Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
