Obituary

Mary May Meyers, 71, of Fairview, died Sunday, October 5, 2014, at her home following a sudden illness.

Funeral Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Del Bear. Burial: Coggon Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary is survived by her 5 children, Jeff Van Dee, Anamosa, Jerry (Tracy) Van Dee, Coggon, Joni Comacho, California, Dawn (Gregg) Latham, Shellsburg and Debra (LeRoy Brooks) Meyers, Anamosa; 15 grandchildren, Jason Van Dee, Johanna Van Dee, Michael Van Dee, Jennifer Van Dee, Donny Van Dee, Matthew Kniffen, Vania Kniffen, Rodney Hines-Meyers, Kimberly Hines, Charlie Hines, Darrell Schulz Jr., Brandi Pitcher, Haley Harris, Ryan Tyler Pierce and Ashley Ann Pierce; 4 great-grandchildren, Cameron Hines, Leah Hines, Destinee Pitcher and Ella Pitcher; siblings, Gilbert (partner Richard Snow) Huelsenbeck and Patricia Dominguez, both of Cedar Rapids, James Walker, Marion, Julie (David) Thomas, Anamosa, Mike (Kathy) Huelsenbeck, Glenwood, Minnesota, Norma Bergen and Linda Cones, both of Cedar Rapids and David (Neva) Geinzer, Tipton; sister-in-law, Joyce Huelsenbeck, Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents, Lindsey and Frances (Kasparek) Huelsenbeck and two brothers, Robert and John Huelsenbeck.

Mary was born January 26, 1943 in Greenbrier, Arkansas and lived most of her life in Eastern Iowa. She married Carl E. Van Dee on June 20, 1959 in Cedar Rapids and they were later divorced. Mary married Donald E. Meyers on March 15, 1968 in Galena, Illinois and he died March 30, 2001. She was currently a school bus driver for the Cedar Rapids School District and in the summer for Kids Inc. Day Care.

Mary dearly loved her children and family and was a surrogate "mother" to many people. She also enjoyed helping and visiting with people, playing bingo, going to casinos, reading books and dancing.

A memorial fund has been established.
