Michael A. McCormally, 64, died Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Crestview Acres in Marion.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held from 4 to 6 P.M. Saturday, November 30 at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., Cedar Rapids.
Mike was born on January 10, 1949 in Emporia, Kansas, to Charles (Chuck) and Betty (Dyer) McCormally. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1967. Mike married Ruth Ann Drahozal on August 7, 1971 in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Air Force at Travis AFB, California, from 1969-1973. Mike worked as an accountant at Norand Corporation (now Intermec) in Cedar Rapids for 18 years, from the beginning of the company until his disability retirement in 1993. While at Norand he attended Kirkwood Community College and then completed his degree in business at Mount Mercy College.
When a ruptured brain aneurysm cut his career short and left him permanently disabled, he moved to the Abbe Center for Community Care in Marion. During his nearly 17 years at the Abbe Center, Mike made many friends with his affable personality and love of conversation. He endeared himself to staff and residents at Crestview Acres as well during his final years there.
Mike is survived by his wife Ruth, and his beloved children and grandchildren: Erin (Doug) Ogle and daughters Olivia and Charlotte; Kate (Chad) Prenatt; Gina (Sean) Leahy and daughter Rhiannon; Ben (Tara) McCormally and daughter Ava, all of Cedar Rapids; Tony (Laura) McCormally and children Anthony and Alexandria, Libertyville, Illinois; Carrie (Jase) Septer and daughter Annabelle, Washington, Iowa. He is also survived by 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Mike's greatest joy in life was raising his family and interacting with his children. We rejoice in the gift of family that God has given us through him.
