Obituary

Norman Gene Turley, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday evening, April 12, 2013 at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church by Deacon Jim Berger. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E. Burial will be at a later date at Saint John's Cemetery.

Norm is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan; children, Donald (Nora) Turley, Walford, Joe (Sheila) Turley, Cedar Rapids, Alice (Dan) Dudley, Chesapeake, Virginia, Laura (Gene) Kloubec, Amana, Annette (Don) Hardin, Wapello, Tina Turley, Homestead and Eveard (Kim) Turley, Cedar Rapids; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dean Turley, Gillette, Wyoming and Bud (Freda) Turley, Mesa, Arizona and a sister, Sharon (Robert) Copp, Buffalo, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Burgess Flint, grandson, Norman G. Turley, his parents, Freeman and Alice Turley and siblings, John Mahaney, Virginia Pogue, Dixie Streeter, LaDonna Fauber and Donald Turley.

Norman was born April 18, 1935 in Meeteetse, Wyoming and had worked in the oil fields in Wyoming before his marriage. He married Joan H. Franc on December 20, 1952 at Saint Boniface Catholic Cathedral in San Francisco.

Norm had worked as a supervisor and crane operator for E. Cohn and Sons, later Alter, Inc. for 38 years before his retirement. In retirement, he worked for Papich-Kuba Funeral Service for over 12 years.

Norm was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was treasurer of Teamsters Union Local 238 for many years, member of Teamsters Union Local 238 Retirees, Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church where he sang in the choir, treasurer and volunteer at Saint Vincent de Paul Society and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 788.

Norm lovingly tended to his parcel of land and enjoyed feeding the ducks, geese, deer and turkeys that wandered into his yard. He loved to go fishing and was very proud of his grandchildren.

Contributions in memory of Norm may be given to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society and Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
