Patricia E. (Carter) Akers, 74, passed away peacefully January 22, 2016.

Celebration of Life gathering will be held 2-4 PM Wednesday, January 27th at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home, 1228 2nd Street S.E. in Cedar Rapids.

Survived by her loving husband of 41 years John D. Akers; her sister Carol (Steve) Faber; two brothers Eugene Carter and Larry Weise; son David (Cathy) Dunek; daughter Kristin Day (Jerry) DeBaker; daughter Jackie (Richard) Pozzi; Kevin (Kelly) Bass; many nieces, nephews with their families; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-granddaughters with another one on her way this spring.

Born in Belmond, Iowa to Aroby "Red" and Zola (Christie) Carter on September 24, 1941. Graduate of Belmond Community High School in 1960, she moved to Cedar Rapids receiving her Medical Assistant Certification in 1969. Pat married John Akers November 9, 1974. She later worked for Sergeant Company then Weyerhaeuser for a number of years until Multiple Sclerosis made her retire.

Pat's family wishes to thank the staff and friends of Manor Care (Pat's second home for 17 years) for their love, support and care. Her genuine laugh and sense of humor will be missed by all.

A memorial fund has been established.
