Patricia A. (Farrington) Durfey, 78, lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died on Monday, December 14, 2020, after a long illness.  She was a long time Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church parishioner and a memorial mass will be held at a future date.  Private family graveside services will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dwight C. Durfey, her parents, Clinton J. and Mary Ann (Dvorak) Farrington, and sister, Carol Fisher.

She is survived by daughter, Christine A. Durfey; son, Steven M. (Lisa) Durfey; grandchildren, Emily A. and Lauren E. Durfey; sister, Marilyn S. VanHouten; nieces, Wendy (Brad) Dutler and Dawn (Andy) Campbell, a grand-niece, Peyton Dutler; brother-in-law, Aldin Durfey; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen (Jan Collins) Gilbert and niece, Julie Frady.

Pat was born on September 7, 1942 in Cedar Rapids.  She attended Immaculate Conception School, Regis High School, and attended Mount Mercy College.  At age 8, she contracted polio, but never saw it as an obstacle – only a challenge to accomplish anything anyone else could do.  Pat was fiercely independent (some may call it stubborn) and was always up for almost any adventure.

She met Dwight at Younkers where they both worked, married in 1964 and were married for 53 years until Dwight's passing in 2017.  Pat was a devoted wife, caring mother, and was proud of and constantly spoiled her grandchildren.  Pat worked in the shipping industry for many years and enjoyed the people she worked with.  She was very giving, and would do anything for anybody – she always had your favorite meal or dessert ready when you arrived at their home.

Pat loved traveling with Dwight both across the U.S. and internationally, including multiple European countries, as well as cruises to the Caribbean and on the Mississippi River.  Pat especially enjoyed their trips to Ireland where they toured the country.  In fact, she loved all things Irish.

Pat's family wishes to thank the Meth-Wick Woodlands facility, particularly the staff from the Nesetril neighborhood for caring for Pat the past three years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Pat by making donations to Camp Courageous and the Alzheimer's Association.
