Richard Fite

Richard James Fite, 77, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. A Celebration of Life service will be held on June 28, 2026, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Service, 1228 2nd Street SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 2:00 p.m., with light refreshments and fellowship to follow. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Richard was born on February 21, 1949, in McGregor Iowa, the son of James and Bernis (Slaughter) Fite. He was united in marriage to Nancy Nikodim on, August 26, 1971, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ely, Iowa. 

Richard will be remembered for his resilience, determination, and the quiet wisdom he shared with family and friends. Richard also dedicated many years to a crisis hotline assisting people in need. He was a proud member of Laborers Local Union 43 and dedicated many years of hard work through his trade building much of the growing Cedar Rapids area including, the Duane Arnold nuclear power plant. Richard loved fishing in his spare time and sharing his cat fish catches with family especially his eight grandchildren. 

Richard is survived by his children, Rebekah (Jason) Callaway, Jessica (Chad) Robards, Carrie Fite, and Danette (Anthony) Fite-Miller; grandchildren, Isaiah Callaway, Nichole Callaway, Kyla Callaway, Carmen Ramierz, Sage Robards, Isabella Callaway, Serenity Robards, and Ardic Robards; siblings, Benjamin “Benny” Fite, Marie (Gary) Grimm, and Mary Opitz; nephews, Mathew Opitz, Louis (Danyell) Nikodim, Joshua Nikodim, and Laurence (Cassie) Olson. 

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Ronnie Fite.
