Robert "Bob" Larry Brooks, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died at home on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 5 th at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2 nd Street S.E., Cedar Rapids. Relatives and friends may visit with the family after 1:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Angela White-O'Dwyer (Billy O'Dwyer), son, Robert Brooks (Dana Brooks) and daughter, Amy Reyhons (Ryan Reyhons). He has five wonderful grandchildren, Treytan White, Owen Brooks, and Mya, Tyler and Hudsyn Reyhons. He is also survived by brothers, Gerald Brooks, Spencer Brooks and Chuck Brooks and sister, Sandy Clough.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alston Brooks and sister, Gwen Brooks.
Bob was born at home on November 9, 1940 in Colo, Iowa, the son of Harold and Lorene Brooks. He grew up in eastern Iowa and enlisted in the Army before returning to Cedar Rapids and marrying Lynda Goldsberry. He had a successful career in sales and started his own business, L & B Sales.
Known to many as "Papa Bob", he was a wonderful storyteller and quick-witted. He enjoyed being an active member of Civitan, Elks and the Special Olympics. Bob loved playing cards and spending time with his siblings, children and grandchildren. Papa Bob was loved by many, enjoyed the beauty of nature, a wonderful home-cooked meal, and spending time teaching his grandchildren how to play cards and all about life. He had a keen interest in politics and loved his country.
Faith was an important part of Bob's daily life and he always showed gratitude for his family, friends and the many blessings in his life.
Military Honors will be conducted by the Cedar Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps League.
