Sofia T. Huk, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died early Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Living Center West after a lengthy illness.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 A.M. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Burial will follow at Saint John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., and after 9:00 A.M. Monday at the church. A rosary begins at 6:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
Sofia is survived by her husband of 69 years, Walter; two sons, John and wife LuAnn and David and wife Tracy, all of Cedar Rapids; 5 grandchildren, Tracy (Craig) Zachman, Amy (Matt) Like, Zachary (fiancée Erica Leuenberger) Huk, Brian Huk and Adam Huk; 4 great-grandchildren, Mariyah, Morgan, Makenna and Walter; and a sister, Anna living in Poland.
She was preceded in death by her son, Peter, parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Sofia T. Hnatyk was born May 1, 1926 in Pstruzne, Poland and married Walter Huk on June 15, 1946 in Ludwigsberg, Germany. She and Walter came to the United States in 1950 and lived in West Point, Iowa before moving to Cedar Rapids.
Sofia was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cadets of Saint George Branch #45 F.C.S.L.A. (formerly Catholic Workman) and Lodge Cedar #7 W.F.L.A. She enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Mercy.
