Tony Nemer, 90, of Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday afternoon, October 17, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center.
Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church by Father Fred Shaheen. Burial: Saint George Orthodox Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church where Trisagion prayers begin at 9:45 A.M. Following the burial, there will be a Mercy Meal in the Church Hall.
Tony is survived by a brother Joe (Elaine) Nemer of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephews, Sam Nemer, Brandi Nemer, Dana Christensen, Lisa Thompson, Mike Nemer, Sue Pauba and Nancy Kalina; and many great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Nemer, his brothers, Eli and Everett Nemer and nephews, Danny and Mark Nemer.
Tony was born January 13, 1925 in Bassett, Nebraska and moved with his family to Cedar Rapids in 1938. He and his brother Everett owned and operated the Fifth Street Grocery Store from 1942 to 1985.
Tony was a member of Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Church and an avid member of the Witwer Senior Center.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
