Verna Jean Bruner, 65, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday afternoon, May 16, 2012 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Saturday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 "J" Street S.W. where friends may call from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday and after 1:30 P.M. Saturday.
Verna Jean (Dighton) Bruner was born September 5, 1946 in Iowa City. She attended school at the Lincoln Learning Center, Cedar Rapids, where she graduated with a high school diploma.
Verna is survived by her two sons, Jerry Hunt and David Stanley; Alex Booth and Sam Sessler who were like sons to her; very best friends, Rose Ash and Diane Hootman; brother, Joe (Carol) Dighton; sisters, Joyce (Bob) Slaymaker, Mary (Rick) Randall and Linda Dighton; Strad and Chanell Dighton and many other nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Gary Bruner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Ethel (Peterson) Dighton and a brother, Strad Lee Dighton.
Verna's family would like to extend a very special thanks to all of her friends and families. She loved you all very much and felt love from each and everyone of you. A special note from Jerry: Verna loved rainbow daisies and hydrangeas.
