Walter W. Buckallew, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home Sunday, November 27, 2016 following a long battle with lung disease.
Per his request, his body has been cremated and there will not be any visitation or services. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is serving his family.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Robin and son, Bryce of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by four children from his marriage to Yvonne Kasey: Mary Reade, Dawn (Randy) Stout, Thomas Buckallew and Kelly Riley all of Cedar Rapids; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Buckallew and Alice (Fields) Buckallew Heck; two brothers, a twin who died at birth and Earl Buckallew; and a son-in-law, Duwayne Reade.
Walter was born April 9, 1940 in Iowa City and graduated from College Community High School in 1959. He was a Navy veteran serving on the USS Saint Paul from 1959 to 1963. Walter worked for the Iowa DOT for 18 years. He worked for the Cedar Rapids School District for 22 years retiring in 2002.
Walter's family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy for the care and support they provided over the past six weeks. Thank you also to Dr. Kenneth Cearlock and Mercy Medical Center for the care that he has received over the past eight years.
