Yarmilla Ann "Millie" Jedlicka, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died early Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha.
At Millie's request, there will be a visitation from 5 to 7 P.M. Tuesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 2nd Street S.E., but no formal funeral and just a private family burial at Saint John's Cemetery.
Millie is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Steve) Le Mont, Fairfax; her beloved grandson, James Louis Le Mont, Cedar Rapids; three step granddaughters and several step great-grandchildren. The joy of Millie's life was her grandson, James.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis in 2006, her daughter, Karen Hardy in 2011, her parents, Anna (Slavik) Popelka and John Popelka and her brother, Jaroslav Popelka.
Yarmilla was born August 10, 1927 in Cedar Rapids and attended McKinley High School. She married Louis D. Jedlicka on November 22, 1947 at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Millie was a lifetime member of Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church. She also was a member of Saint Bridget's Circle and helped with the funeral dinners at the church. Millie was very proud of her Czech heritage.
Millie loved to do for others and she was a generous and caring person. She had a personal faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Millie never wanted to draw attention to herself and so she loved helping behind the scenes. She was comfortable in giving, much more so than receiving. Millie always had a beautiful smile.
This last year, Millie's deep personal faith was based on John 3:16 – For God So Loved the World that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting Life. This would be Millie's desire for those who knew and loved her.
Mom was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Millie's family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Brookdale for the care she received during the last 2 years, to the compassionate nurses and staff of Hospice of Mercy and for those giving Mom such dignity at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy on the last day of her life.
As far as a memorial, Millie would say to show kindness to others while they are alive. If you wish to send a memorial contribution, the family suggests the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
